United flight forced to turn back to Las Vegas after hijack threat
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested a passenger on terrorism-related charges after United Airlines' Boeing 737 bound for Newark was forced to return to Harry Reid International Airport on 27 October. The arrest followed a report that the passenger had sent messages threatening to hijack the aircraft.
The flight had departed Las Vegas on 24 October but turned back after a crew member alerted authorities that the passenger was texting about a hijacking. The aircraft landed safely with no injuries, and the incident prompted a temporary lockdown of the airport.
