Cyclone Arnab Weakens to Deep Depression, Relief Efforts Launched in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
The India Meteorological Department said on 29 October that Cyclone Arnab had weakened to a deep depression and that state officials in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were deploying relief and restoration measures across the affected districts. The storm had made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast on 28 October as a very severe cyclonic storm, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and a storm surge that forced evacuations, power outages and the cancellation of train services. Earlier, the IMD had issued a red alert for Odisha on 25 October, forecasting further intensification, and authorities had moved about 89,000 residents to relief camps, closed schools and cancelled leave for disaster personnel while preparing mass evacuations of hundreds of thousands of people.
