Cyclone Arnab stalls off Andhra Pradesh coast as landfall continues
The India Meteorological Department said Cyclone Arnab remained almost stationary along the Andhra Pradesh shoreline on October 28, with the landfall process expected to last another two to three hours. The department had earlier warned that Arnab would intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and hit the Andhra Pradesh coast on Oct. 28, prompting a red alert in Odisha and the mobilisation of rescue teams. Odisha officials announced school closures on Oct.
28-29 and urged fishermen to stay ashore. Authorities moved roughly 89,000 people to relief camps and cancelled dozens of train services as the storm approached the Kakinada and Yanam coasts. When the cyclone made landfall early, it brought strong winds, heavy rain and a storm surge that caused power outages and further transport disruptions.
