Cyclone Arnab set to hit Andhra Pradesh, prompting evacuations and train cancellations
India's Meteorological Department warned that Cyclone Arnab would strike the Andhra Pradesh coast on Oct 28 as a very severe cyclonic storm, prompting evacuations, school closures and the cancellation of dozens of train services across the region. Earlier, the department issued a red alert for Odisha as the system was expected to intensify, and state officials announced school closures for Oct 28-29 while keeping schools open on Oct 26. Authorities in both Andhra Pradesh and Odisha prepared mass evacuations, moving about 89,000 residents to relief camps and issuing weather alerts as the cyclone approached the Kakinada and Yanam coasts.
