King Charles Reaches Guyana on Caribbean Tour, Highlights Environment and Trade
On 20 October, King Charles III arrived in Georgetown, Guyana, beginning the second leg of his nine-day Caribbean tour. During the visit he highlighted new environmental cooperation projects and the expansion of UK-Guyana trade ties, and he refrained from issuing an official apology for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, emphasizing the importance of climate resilience for low-lying nations.
The tour had launched in the Bahamas earlier in the week, where the king said it was right to recognise past injustices and warned of the climate challenges facing island states. He arrived in Nassau in a striped shirt and tie, and British officials deployed extensive risk-management measures as protests and calls for reparations intensified.
