Jordanian forces carried out airstrikes on targets in southeastern Syria on October 27, saying they were retaliating for the deadly attack on a Greek Orthodox church funeral in Karak. Syrian authorities reported that the strikes killed seven civilians and led to the closure of the main border crossing, and Jordanian security forces announced the arrest of three men suspected of involvement.

The church shooting on October 22 in the village of Hmoud, Karak governorate, left at least seven people dead and dozens injured after gunmen opened fire on the funeral. The incident prompted a national security investigation, three days of mourning, and a manhunt that later resulted in the detention of three suspects.
