Buckingham Palace says it was not briefed on abuse allegations against Meghan's father
British officials said in London that Buckingham Palace had not been briefed on child-abuse allegations against Thomas Markle Sr. , the father of the Duchess of Sussex, and that investigations are ongoing in the Philippines and the United States. Thomas Markle Sr. confirmed a relationship with a 46-year-old nurse in the Philippines while police there investigated claims he possessed child sexual-abuse images, according to Page Six. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, said she was deeply distressed by the reports and had kept her children away from him for their protection, NBC News reported. She later sent a 2025 letter stating she would cease contact with her father and that authorities were aware of the abuse allegations, CBS News said.
Philippine authorities in Cebu opened a formal probe, Reuters noted. U. S. agencies such as the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police have also been involved, according to reports. London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed it had received a 2019 letter alleging misconduct by Markle but did not forward the details to other law-enforcement bodies, the force said. Royal insiders said the monarchy is likely to stay out of the scandal and focus on official duties, Page Six reported.
