Meghan Markle cuts off father after abuse allegations, sparking investigations
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, sent a letter to her father Thomas Markle Sr. accusing him of abusing young girls, prompting police investigations in the Philippines and statements from both parties, CBS News reported. Philippine authorities opened an investigation after claims he possessed child sexual abuse material, Reuters said. Meghan had earlier said she was deeply distressed by the allegations and had kept her children away from him, NBC News reported.
Thomas Markle Sr. confirmed he was in a relationship with a 46-year-old nurse in the Philippines, Page Six noted. The Metropolitan Police confirmed it had received a 2019 letter alleging misconduct by Markle, forwarded it to the Sussexes but did not share it with other law-enforcement agencies, BBC and CBS News reported.
