Motorola Razr Fold crowned top 2024 foldable after extensive competitor testing
Tom's Guide reported that the Motorola Razr Fold was the top recommendation among 2024 foldable phones after testing models from Apple, Samsung and Google, citing its superior battery life, storage capacity and zoom performance. Apple introduced its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, with limited availability and mixed early reviews, according to Inside Retail Asia. A custom-built rig folded the device more than 32,000 times, finding the hinge slightly stiffer (Cult of Mac; MacRumors). Tim Pan’s testing confirmed hinge durability after 11,500 folds but noted a more pronounced screen crease (The Verge).
CNET began a systematic folding test to compare the iPhone Duo’s hinge longevity with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. JerryRigEverything observed dust ingress and screen damage, prompting iFixit to highlight hinge dust issues and assign a repairability score of 5 out of 10 (MacRumors; iFixit). iFixit later noted that while the battery and outer components are relatively easy to replace, the inner display and hinge are difficult and prone to dust-related damage (The Register). Independent testing reported that the inner display can crack after roughly 75,000 folds (Gizmodo).
