Putin agrees to restart US-mediated three-way Ukraine peace talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on 21 October that he would restart U. S. -mediated three-way peace talks with Ukraine after 10 November, following a meeting with U. S. envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg. Earlier in October, President Donald Trump had pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accept a peace settlement and questioned U.
S. support, while Zelensky reported that intelligence sharing on Russian strikes was now functioning. European officials said Trump's remarks suggested a personal bias against Zelenskyy, raising concerns about Washington's backing for Kyiv. Putin had previously proposed a three-way summit with the United States and China, though Ukraine and the EU voiced doubts about Moscow's willingness to negotiate. Russian officials later indicated a possible summit that would exclude Ukraine and the EU. Senator Marco Rubio warned that the war in Ukraine could spill over into neighboring countries.
