Toledo chemical leak triggers evacuation and shelter-in-place orders
Toledo Fire & Rescue said a leak of glycidyl methacrylate from a 5,500-gallon tank at the MC Tank facility prompted a one-mile evacuation and a three-mile shelter-in-place order on October 18, and officials were monitoring for a possible explosion. Earlier, The Guardian reported that an explosion at the MC Tank terminal had released the same chemical, prompting similar evacuation orders. WTVG had initially announced the evacuation of residents within a one-mile radius of 1050 Progress Avenue and a shelter-in-place advisory for those within three miles.
