Air Force Sergeant Dies After 170-Foot Rappel Fall at Alamodome
Air Force officials said Tech Sergeant Ian Patterson died after falling about 170 feet during a rope-rappelling demonstration at the Alamodome in San Antonio, and the New York Post reported the fall occurred during the pre-game ceremony for the UTSA-Navy football game. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
ESPN reported that a member of the Air Force died after a rappel accident during the same pre-game ceremony, and the Guardian identified the service member as Tech Sergeant Ian Patterson, a 15-year veteran. The Sun said the incident prompted an Air Force investigation into the cause of the fall.
