Trump pushes immediate East Potomac golf renovation despite court injunction
President Donald Trump announced that work on the historic East Potomac Golf Links in Washington would begin immediately, despite a federal judge’s order requiring a three-day notice period and prohibiting further tree removal until late October. The controversy began when the National Park Service revealed plans to cut down more than 500 trees as part of the administration’s proposed upgrade of the course. U. S. District Judge Ana Reyes issued an emergency order halting the tree removal, later extending the restraining order through Oct.
26 and demanding advance notice for any additional work. The Justice Department subsequently filed a motion seeking Judge Reyes’s recusal, alleging bias in the lawsuit. In early October, Trump also said the course would close for about 15 months and that construction was slated to start on Nov. 15, underscoring the administration’s push to proceed despite the legal challenges.
