Trump announces November start for East Potomac golf renovation despite injunction
President Donald Trump said on 18 October that work on the historic East Potomac Golf Links will start on 15 November, even though U. S. District Judge Ana Reyes has ordered a pause in tree-cutting and required the government to report its position. The president said the schedule would proceed as planned. The administration’s renovation plan, first disclosed by the National Park Service, calls for removing more than 500 trees.
Judge Reyes issued an emergency 24-hour halt on the removals, later rebuked the administration for cutting down over 400 trees without notice, and extended a temporary restraining order through 26 October, demanding advance notice for any further modifications. She subsequently ordered a pause and required advance notice before any additional work. The Justice Department filed a motion to have Judge Reyes recused herself, alleging bias. Earlier, President Trump unveiled a proposal to convert the course into a championship-level facility.
