Senator Schmitt withdraws from C-SPAN after criticized basketball query
The Daily Beast reported that Senator Eric Schmitt withdrew from a scheduled C-SPAN appearance after his line of questioning of Special Counsel Jack Smith during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing was widely criticized. NBC News said Schmitt mistakenly cited an NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks, while Smith clarified he had attended a women’s college basketball game between Maryland and Iowa. The Independent reported that Senator Amy Klobuchar said the question exposed confusion and criticized the hearing’s focus.
Fox News noted that Schmitt declined to apologize for the error. The Daily Beast added that the incident drew bipartisan criticism of the senator’s approach.
