On 19 August, linebacker Von Miller said a Super Bowl win with the Dallas Cowboys would feel distinct, noting the unique fan reaction a Dallas title would generate and stressing his priority to help the team capture its first championship in 30 years. Miller signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys on 16 August, a deal worth up to $7. 5 million that adds veteran pass-rush depth.

Co-owner Stephen Jones confirmed the signing, and owner Jerry Jones said the club remains open to a major trade even after adding Miller. Miller also said he prefers to wear jersey number 40, which is currently assigned to fullback Hunter Luepke.
