The Weather Channel reported that the Perseid meteor shower reached its peak overnight on August 12-13, 2026, delivering up to 100 meteors per hour under dark new-moon skies, with observers noting vivid displays. Astronomers had forecast the peak for those dates, expecting 90-100 meteors per hour thanks to the new moon and dark conditions. While the Bay Area and parts of Northern California faced scattered fog and clouds that could limit visibility, observers in Oregon and other regions organized outdoor viewing events and indoor watch parties, and some were advised to travel to clearer locations.
