UFC 330 Welterweight Title Fight Between Makhachev and Garry Set for August 15, 2026
MMA Fighting reported that at a pre-fight press conference in Philadelphia, Ian Machado Garry appeared larger than champion Islam Makhachev ahead of their scheduled UFC 330 welterweight title bout on August 15, 2026. Earlier, Charles Oliveira said Garry’s preparation gave him a strong chance to upset Makhachev, while retired fighter Matt Brown expressed doubt that Garry could overcome the champion’s grappling advantage. Coach Javier Mendez argued that a successful defense could cement Makhachev’s place among MMA’s all-time greats, and UFC president Dana White said it was too early to label him the sport’s greatest.
Podcast host Joe Rogan speculated that a victory might prompt Makhachev to consider retirement, a notion the champion denied. Makhachev himself warned that his time in the organization is limited and he prefers to fight every three to four months. Garry, who respects Makhachev as the benchmark opponent, claimed his recent five opponents were tougher than the champion and added that, should he win, Carlos Prates deserves the next title shot.
