Joe Rogan Suggests Islam Makhachev Might Retire After UFC 330 Victory
Podcast host Joe Rogan speculated that Islam Makhachev could consider retirement if he wins his welterweight title defense at UFC 330, though the fighter denied any such plans.
Islam Makhachev is set to make his first welterweight title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 on Saturday in Philadelphia. During a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan said Makhachev might retire after a win, noting the champion’s achievements in two weight classes and comparing a potential retirement to that of Khabib Nurmagomedov. Rogan added that a retirement could open the way for a bout between top contenders Carlos Prates and Michael Morales for an undisputed title. Morales is listed as the official backup for the main event. Makhachev told MMA Junkie he has no intention of quitting yet. Rogan also predicted that Makhachev would rely primarily on his grappling, similar to his performance against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322, and would use striking mainly as a means to set up takedowns.
