Makhachev comments on Garry's reception ahead of UFC 330 title bout
At a pre-fight press conference in Philadelphia, Islam Makhachev noted the crowd’s hostility toward Ian Machado Garry, while both fighters prepared for their UFC 330 welterweight title clash.
During a pre-fight press conference in Philadelphia, Irish welterweight Ian Machado Garry was repeatedly booed as he addressed the media. Garry responded that he expected a different reaction after the fight, saying the crowd would chant his name if he won the belt. He added that he was unfazed by the boos, noting his son’s presence and his lifelong dream of fighting for a UFC title.
Russia-born champion Islam Makhachev received enthusiastic cheers when he spoke. When asked about the audience’s reaction to Garry, Makhachev said he was not surprised, suggesting the crowd was uncertain about Garry’s national affiliation and therefore less supportive.
When Garry referenced the late Dagestani coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Makhachev dismissed the comment, telling Garry to stop speaking.
Both fighters are set to meet on Aug. 15 in Philadelphia, with Garry seeking an upset to claim the welterweight title and Makhachev aiming to defend his belt and extend his winning streak.
