Eight injured, including four children, in Coney Island July 4 shooting
The New York Police Department said a late-night shooting on Coney Island injured eight people, including four children, during a family cookout near the beach. Police recovered a handgun at the scene, ABC News reported. Among the victims was a 21-year-old woman who was listed in critical condition, the same source added.
CBS News later identified the four child victims as being between six and fourteen years old. AP News confirmed the total of eight injured and reiterated that the incident occurred at a family gathering near the shoreline. Authorities continued their investigation into the shooting.
