Multiple victims, including four children, shot during Brooklyn fireworks celebration
Eight people were wounded, four of them children, in a shooting near a Coney Island fireworks display on Saturday night, police said.
Police responded to a shooting at about 10:35 p.m. on Saturday at 2930 West 30th Street, near Surf Avenue in Coney Island, shortly after a fireworks show had ended. Detectives and officers found eight victims, including a 7-year-old, a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old, and a 14-year-old, as well as several adults. Seven of the injured were reported to be in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remained in critical condition.
"When I see in the camera I see the cops running with the kids in their hands," said a deli worker who was on the scene.
"It’s so sad they won’t enjoy themselves without them killing each other," said a resident identified as Mackenzie, describing the neighborhood’s reputation for violence.
"It’s nothing new over here honestly," a neighbor added.
Police have not identified the number of shooters or a motive. A bag containing a firearm was reportedly found near the scene. All victims were taken to local hospitals, and the investigation is ongoing.
