Cracker Barrel Addresses Backlash Over Logo Redesign
Cracker Barrel responds to criticism following its recent logo change, emphasizing commitment to heritage while aiming to attract new customers.
Cracker Barrel has responded to public backlash over its recent logo redesign, acknowledging it could have better communicated the changes. The new logo, introduced last week, removes the traditional image of a man in overalls leaning against a barrel, opting instead for a simplified design featuring only the brand's name. This update is part of a broader rebranding effort that includes modernizing restaurant decor.
The redesign sparked criticism on social media, with some users describing the new logo as "generic" and "soulless." Notably, Donald Trump Jr. expressed his disapproval on X, questioning the company's decision. Rival chain Steak 'n Shake also criticized the move, suggesting it was an attempt to appeal to "trend seekers."
In response, Cracker Barrel emphasized that core elements of its identity remain unchanged. The company stated that Uncle Herschel, the figure from the former logo, will continue to be featured on the menu and in-store merchandise. Additionally, traditional features like rocking chairs on the porch and vintage Americana decor will be preserved.
Cracker Barrel's stock experienced a decline of over 10% following the logo's unveiling on August 18. Despite the controversy, the company reiterated its commitment to honoring its heritage while also seeking to attract a new generation of customers. Cracker Barrel stated, "That means showing up on new platforms and in new ways, but always with our heritage at the heart."
