Ford names its upcoming affordable electric pickup the Fathom, starting at $28,350
Ford announced its new budget electric pickup, the Fathom, will start at $28,350 plus delivery fees, with deliveries expected next year.
Ford revealed that its next low-cost electric pickup will be marketed as the Fathom. The vehicle will be built on the company’s new universal electric vehicle (UEV) platform and feature a zonal electronics architecture that reduces wiring by consolidating many control units into a few high-performance computers. The Fathom is sized similarly to a Maverick but offers a more aerodynamic shape and interior space comparable to a Toyota RAV4. It will support bidirectional charging and optional Ford BlueCruise hands-free driver assistance. Pricing starts at $28,350, with an additional $1,595 delivery charge, and deliveries are slated for later next year.
"The Fathom will be capable of bidirectional charging, and Ford’s BlueCruise, hands-free, partially automated driver assist will also be an option," Ford said. The model follows Ford’s earlier effort to electrify its best-selling F-150, which did not meet expectations, prompting the company to create a California-based skunkworks team to develop a clean-sheet EV design.
