Ford unveils $28,350 midsize electric pickup named Fathom
Ford announced its new midsize electric truck, the Fathom, will start at $28,350 before fees, with preorders slated for early 2027 and deliveries later that year.
Ford Motor Co. said on Thursday that its upcoming midsize electric pickup, called the Fathom, will have a base price of $28,350. Adding destination and delivery charges of $1,595 brings the total to $29,945, close to the $30,000 target the company has cited for its future EV lineup. Preorders for the five-passenger truck are expected to open in early 2027, with customer deliveries planned for later that year. Ford has not yet released visual details of the vehicle.
The Fathom will be the first model built on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, which the automaker says is intended to help its Model e unit reach profitability by 2029. > "We are confident that we have the best cost platform and are focused on the right market," a Ford spokesperson said in an email. > "We believe the UEV platform will be a strategic advantage -- and we have the best chance to make it work."
Ford aims for each UEV-based vehicle to become profitable within a year of launch and to compete on price with leading global EV manufacturers. The company plans to produce the Fathom at its Louisville Assembly Plant using a new assembly-tree manufacturing process. The announcement comes as the broader EV market faces slower adoption and the phase-out of U.S. consumer incentives, after Ford recorded $19.5 billion in restructuring charges related to its electric-vehicle operations last year.
