Ford opens sign-up for preorder invites to $30,000 Fathom electric pickup

Summary

Ford is now accepting sign-ups for preorder invitations to its midsize electric pickup, the Fathom, which is slated to start at under $30,000 and will be available for order in early 2027.

Ford has begun accepting sign-ups for preorder invitations to its upcoming Fathom electric pickup, with official orders expected to open in early 2027. The company says the Fathom will start at $28,350 for the standard-range battery model, and after a $1,595 destination fee the price will remain under $30,000, roughly half the cost of the F-150 Lightning.

The Fathom will be built on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform and will feature a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack that eliminates cobalt and nickel, reducing weight and cost while providing a low center of gravity. Ford says the battery pack forms the vehicle’s floor, which should improve handling and interior space.

Interior specifications include a large touchscreen display, integrated Apple Maps, Digital Key, remote-control via the Ford app, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All models will be equipped with BlueCruise for hands-free highway driving and will support bidirectional charging. The vehicle will also use a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, as observed on test mules.

Ford describes the Fathom as a midsize, four-door electric pickup, though prototype dimensions appear similar to the compact Maverick. The company claims the Fathom will offer more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4 and will be cheaper to own over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y.

CEO Jim Farley told the 2026 Automotive News Congress that “It’s going to be a heck of an effort to launch this at scale, at cost, on time.” A Ford spokesperson confirmed to Electrek that the launch timeline remains unchanged, with the first prototypes expected to roll off the Louisville Assembly Plant in 2027 and deliveries slated for later that year.
