Ariana Grande to pause public appearances after tour, exits West End production

Summary

The singer will step back from public-facing work following the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine Tour in September and has withdrawn from a West End revival of “Sunday in the Park with George.”

Ariana Grande will take a break from public appearances after finishing her Eternal Sunshine Tour, her representative told ABC News. The decision also means she will no longer star in the upcoming West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George,” a role that would have reunited her with former “Wicked” co-star Jonathan Bailey.

"Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour," the representative said. "She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances."

A source close to Grande expressed disappointment about her departure from the production but affirmed her support for the creative team, adding that she “cannot wait to support the brilliant team bringing this project to life.”

The representative did not detail the reasons behind the hiatus, though the statement referenced ongoing public scrutiny tied to her visibility. Grande’s recent music video for the single “Petal” sparked renewed online commentary, and she has previously addressed body-shaming in her 2024 song “Yes, And?”

The Eternal Sunshine Tour, which began in June in Oakland, will wrap up its U.S. leg before moving to London for a final show on Sept. 1. After the tour, Grande is slated to appear in the comedy film “Focker-in-Law,” part of the “Meet the Parents” franchise, slated for a Nov. 25 theatrical release.
