Ohio Congressman Max Miller Faces Calls for Resignation Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations
Republican Rep. Max Miller is under pressure to step down after his ex-wife and former girlfriend accused him of abuse while he seeks re-election.
Ohio’s 7th district Republican representative Max Miller, 37, is confronting renewed demands for his resignation following domestic-abuse accusations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, and former girlfriend, Stephanie Grisham, as he campaigns for a second term. Moreno, a conservative policy adviser and mother of Miller’s two-year-old daughter, testified that Miller threw hot water at her and once held a gun to her head. She also said he regularly spoke to her in an aggressive and demeaning manner, which she said was not in their child’s best interest. Miller denied the claims, telling Spectrum News in June that the allegations were false and that no police reports had been filed.
Miller has also disputed Grisham’s accusations. Grisham, who served as White House press secretary during the first Trump administration, previously wrote an op-ed describing an abusive relationship without naming Miller; she later confirmed the piece referred to him. Miller sued Grisham for defamation but later dropped the case as part of a confidential settlement. Grisham has filed a new lawsuit alleging Miller violated that settlement with recent comments.
A prominent gun-violence prevention group, Giffords, called for Miller’s immediate resignation, with its executive director stating that Congress should not tolerate members who threaten their families. Miller’s Democratic opponent, Brian Poindexter, said that if the allegations are proven, Miller should face criminal charges rather than seek office.
Miller’s spokesperson described a New York Times reporter as “disgusting” when approached for comment. A spokesperson for Senator Bernie Moreno, Emily Moreno’s father, said the senator’s priority is his daughter’s and granddaughter’s safety and that he will pursue a just outcome for his family.
