Sen. Jim Banks urges Rep. Max Miller to withdraw if abuse allegations are true

Summary

Sen. Jim Banks said Rep. Max Miller should drop his re-election campaign and resign from Congress if the domestic-violence accusations against him are verified.

Sen. Jim Banks told NBC News’ "Meet the Press" that Rep. Max Miller, a Republican from Ohio facing domestic-violence accusations, should abandon his re-election bid and resign if the allegations are proven true. Banks said the claims could jeopardize the party’s hold on a House seat and urged Miller to step aside.

Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, has alleged that he threw her against a wall, pointed a gun at her head and poured hot water on her. Miller has denied the accusations, has not been charged criminally and said he will remain in the race, calling for a House Ethics Committee investigation.

"The allegations against him are terrible, and if he’s endangering a seat in Congress as we’re trying to keep the majority in the House, he should drop out if he’s endangering that seat," Banks said on the program.

"If the allegations are true and watching this play out publicly, of course he should resign," he added.

Miller’s spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. Other Republican senators, including Tim Sheehy, Jon Husted, Katie Britt and Roger Marshall, have also called for Miller to step aside or resign.
