Packers begin training camp with 90-minute practice at Ray Nitschke Field
Green Bay opened its 2026 training camp on Wednesday with a 90-minute practice, featuring rookie highlights, roster updates and injury reports.
Green Bay’s first training-camp practice on July 29 lasted about 90 minutes and concluded just after noon at Ray Nitschke Field. The team will hold its second session the following day at the same 10:30 a.m. start time.
Rookie undrafted cornerback Marlon Jones, who overcame stage-3 lymphoma, intercepted a pass on a third-and-goal drill, a play described as a potential 100-yard pick-six in a game scenario. Defensive end Zaire Franklin, acquired in a trade for defensive tackle Colby Wooden, stripped the ball from running back MarShawn Lloyd during a dump-off pass.
Third-string quarterback Kyron Drones, an undrafted free agent, scrambled for a touchdown on a third-and-8 play, showcasing his mobility that produced 170 carries for 644 yards and nine rushing touchdowns last season at Virginia Tech.
The practice saw newcomer wide receiver and return specialist Skyy Moore lead the punt-return unit, while veteran running back MarShawn Lloyd, who has missed most of his first two NFL seasons due to injuries, slipped on a screen pass but quickly returned to the backfield.
Quarterback Jordan Love recorded a rushing touchdown on a fake handoff. Love entered the season after posting a 66.3% completion rate and a 101.2 passer rating last year, and will likely target star receiver Christian Watson, who signed a four-year, $110.5 million extension after returning from a torn ACL.
The offensive line entered camp with no changes to its starting configuration, though rookie guard Jager Burton left the field with a trainer and was taken to the Don Hutson Center for evaluation.
Two players previously on the physically unable to perform list—nose tackle Nazir Stackhouse and guard Aaron Banks—were cleared to practice. Defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt signed a three-year, $57 million extension, becoming the 15th-highest paid defensive tackle in the league.
The Packers released veteran kicker Lucas Havrisik, leaving rookie Trey Smack and newcomer Lenny Krieg to compete for the kicking job. The team’s preseason schedule includes a matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 13, marking a rare encounter with former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the opposing sideline.
Public practices are free to attend, typically lasting between 90 minutes and two hours, with a special Family Night scheduled for August 7 at Lambeau Field.
