Packers resume Day 4 of training camp with tight end activation and first field-goal attempts
Green Bay returned to practice after a day off, activating tight end Tucker Kraft and seeing kicker Trey Smack attempt his first field goals, while the defensive line continued to pressure the offense.
Green Bay Packers practice resumed on Sunday, Aug. 2, at Ray Nitschke Field after a scheduled day off. Tight end Tucker Kraft, who was moved off the physically unable to perform list on July 31, ran routes with quarterback Jordan Love and is expected to be available for the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 13.
The session featured a successful hook-and-ladder play in which backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw to Bo Melton, who lateraled to Pierre Strong Jr. for a 20-yard touchdown, a play noted by head coach Matt LaFleur. Defensive linemen Lukas Van Ness and Anthony Campbell each knocked down passes at the line of scrimmage, including attempts in third-and-goal situations.
Kicker Trey Smack attempted his first field goals of camp, converting attempts from 29, 34, 39, 42 and 45 yards despite windy conditions. Special teams coach Cam Achord did not use rookies on first-team units during the practice.
Cornerback Brandon Cisse continued to draw attention with solid coverage work, while fellow cornerback Kamal Hadden returned to practice after recovering from an ankle injury and a dislocated finger. Offensive lineman Donovan Jennings struggled with shotgun snaps, leading to a substitution at left guard.
Head coach Matt LaFleur said the team will continue to ease Kraft back into full workouts and that Kraft could participate in a joint practice with the Arizona Cardinals if he remains healthy. The Packers also released a day-four injury report listing several players on the PUP list and others on injured reserve.
The team will practice in pads for the first time on Monday, Aug. 3, and will hold a joint practice with the Cardinals on Aug. 26.
