Packers hold Family Night practice with notable performances and injury updates
Green Bay's Family Night practice featured strong showings from several rookies, a safety by Ty'Ron Hopper, and updates on injured players, while quarterback Jordan Love appeared with his newborn daughter.
Green Bay held its annual Family Night practice at Lambeau Field on Friday, Aug. 7, drawing fans and players alike. The session highlighted several standout plays, including a safety by second-string linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper after he broke through the offensive line on a run by Damien Martinez. Defensive tackle Karl Brooks also impressed, beating a double team to pressure quarterback Jordan Love on a drill.
Rookie kicker Trey Smack was perfect on the night, converting three field goals from 38, 43 and 45 yards, though head coach Matt LaFleur cautioned that real evaluation will come in preseason games. Wide receiver Savion Williams caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Love and celebrated with a Lambeau Leap, while Matthew Golden recorded a 52-yard touchdown reception.
Defensive highlights included Anthony Campbell’s fifth pass deflection of camp and Brandon Cisse’s pass breakup on a Jordan Love to Christian Watson attempt. The practice also showcased a pass-rush drill where end Brenton Cox Jr. repeatedly beat offensive tackles.
Injury news revealed that several players remain on the physically unable to perform list, including edge rusher Micah Parsons and tight end Tucker Kraft, who sat out the event despite recent progress in his recovery from a torn ACL. Kraft is expected to be fully ready for the season opener on Sept. 13.
Quarterback Jordan Love attended with his newborn daughter, Rayna Capri, marking his first public appearance with his child. The event was broadcast statewide on local stations such as WGBA-TV in Green Bay and WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, beginning at 7:30 p.m. under warm, humid conditions.
