Tiger Woods Arrested on Suspicion of DUI After Jupiter Island Crash

Summary

Golfer Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a rollover crash near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida. Authorities noted signs of impairment, though a breathalyzer test showed no alcohol. Woods refused a urine test and was charged with DUI and property damage.

Golfing legend Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) following a rollover crash near his residence on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday afternoon. According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, Woods was traveling at high speed when his Land Rover clipped the rear of a pressure-cleaner truck attempting to turn into a driveway, causing his vehicle to overturn. Sheriff John Budensiek stated that responding officers observed signs of impairment in Woods, who appeared "lethargic" and exhibited difficulty speaking and moving. Although a breathalyzer test indicated no presence of alcohol, Woods refused to submit to a urine test. He was charged with DUI involving property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, both misdemeanors. Woods was held in the Martin County Jail for the mandatory eight-hour period before being released. This incident marks Woods' second DUI-related arrest, following a 2017 charge where he was found asleep at the wheel under the influence of prescription medication. Additionally, Woods was involved in a serious crash in 2021 in California, resulting in multiple leg injuries. At the time of the recent incident, Woods was recovering from back surgery and a ruptured Achilles tendon, with his return to professional golf uncertain. President Donald Trump, a personal acquaintance of Woods, expressed concern for the golfer following the crash.
