Eritrea's Ministry of Education Reviews 2025 Achievements and Outlines 2026 Plans

The Ministry of Education in Eritrea convened a meeting to evaluate its 2025 activities and deliberate on the 2026 action plan. Attendees included department heads, representatives from Eritrean schools in Sudan, and UNESCO officials.

Reports presented indicated that over 35,000 adults, 89% of whom were female, enrolled in adult education programs, with a 76% completion rate. Additionally, 68.8% of the 70,349 students who took the eighth-grade national examination achieved passing marks. Over 700 students graduated from technical, agricultural, and music schools with certificate programs. A five-year strategic plan was also developed. Challenges identified included shortages of human resources and facilities.

Participants engaged in extensive discussions and made several recommendations, such as preparing research papers and enhancing cultural, history, and language training programs for students.

Dr. Halima Mohammed, Minister of Education, emphasized that the assessment meeting is crucial for identifying strengths and challenges, preserving achievements, and addressing shortcomings. She highlighted that the education sector is a priority for the Eritrean government, with a focus on enhancing teachers' capacity, strengthening relations with government institutions and stakeholders, and aligning resources to develop the teaching-learning process.
