Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick criticizes Broncos' Bo Nix after overtime win
Analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick said Broncos quarterback Bo Nix showed a lack of competitiveness and effort in the team's overtime victory.
The Denver Broncos defeated the defending Super Bowl champions in overtime on Thursday night, but their offensive performance drew criticism from former quarterback-turned-analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick on the Prime Video post-game show. Fitzpatrick said Bo Nix was not playing competitively and described his effort as "almost disrespectful to the quarterback position."
"Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing quarterback right now... He has no trust from his coach, he calls a screen play on third and eight... He’s not playing competitive football right now," Fitzpatrick said.
He added that the quarterback lacked fire and passion, suggesting that Nix needed to be reminded of the responsibilities of his role.
"There’s no fire and there’s no passion... He needs to be sat down and told that being a quarterback in the NFL is a very special thing. Right now he’s taking it for granted," Fitzpatrick said.
Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions, posting a passer rating of 71.1. Denver’s offense totaled 168 yards, far below Seattle’s 353 yards. The remarks come as head coach Sean Payton and offensive coordinator Davis Webb have not publicly addressed Nix’s performance.
Nix, entering his third season, will be eligible for a second contract after the year, and the Broncos will need to decide whether to retain him at market value or seek alternatives to secure a franchise quarterback.
