Former Broncos star defends Bo Nix amid criticism from ex-NFL quarterback

Summary

Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey pushed back against harsh comments from analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick about quarterback Bo Nix’s performance in a recent win over Seattle.

Bo Nix faced intense scrutiny after the Broncos’ 17-14 overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. Former NFL quarterback and Prime Video analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick described Nix’s play as "almost disrespectful to the quarterback position" and questioned his competitiveness and effort.

Ed McCaffrey, who played for Denver from 1995 to 2003, responded on social media, urging critics to stop. He wrote that winning should be enough and that questioning Nix’s heart and desire to win crossed a line.

Nix, returning from a fractured ankle suffered in a January playoff game, completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards and added two rushing yards in the win. The Broncos have compiled a 4-2 record this season, with victories over the Jaguars, Rams, Chargers and Seahawks and losses to the Chiefs and 49ers.

"It was really frustrating to watch," Fitzpatrick said on the post-game show. "Bo Nix is not playing competitively, it's almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he's playing football."

"I can only imagine how Sean Payton feels," Fitzpatrick added, suggesting the coach lacks trust in Nix.

"Stop, just stop. Enough already. Apparently winning isn’t enough anymore," McCaffrey wrote in reply.

"But questioning Bo’s heart and desire to win? That’s a different story," he continued.

McCaffrey also noted that a 4-2 record is respectable, emphasizing that the team’s performance should be considered alongside individual critiques.
