Seahawks add veteran running back Joe Mixon as injuries deplete backfield

Resumen

Seattle signed former Bengals and Texans running back Joe Mixon to the practice squad after rookie Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet were placed on injured reserve, leaving the team short on depth.

Seattle Seahawks have signed veteran running back Joe Mixon, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans, to their practice squad and assigned him jersey number 25. The move comes as the team deals with injuries to rookie Jadarian Price, who is on injured reserve with a chest injury, and Zach Charbonnet, who is recovering from a torn ACL.

Head coach Mike Macdonald said the injuries are an unavoidable part of football and praised Price's attitude and work ethic, noting that the player will return when healthy. The Seahawks opened Charbonnet's 21-day practice window on Thursday, indicating a possible near-term return.

In the recent game against the Los Angeles Chargers, backup running back Emanuel Wilson recorded 21 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown, along with three receptions for 39 yards and another score, while George Holani added seven carries for 18 yards. Mixon, a two-time Pro Bowler who has rushed for over 1,000 yards in four seasons, provides veteran depth while the younger backs recover.

Mixon missed the 2025 season due to a foot injury and was released by Houston in March, making him available to join Seattle.
