Pittsburgh sent rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to Dallas in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick after failing to reach a contract extension.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys, receiving a 2028 second-round draft pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick in return, according to multiple reports. Porter, selected 32nd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, is in the final year of his rookie contract and had not appeared this season, being listed with a back injury. The trade follows unsuccessful negotiations for a contract extension; Steelers general manager Omar Khan said the team does not negotiate extensions during the season, and no agreement was reached before the opening game against the Atlanta Falcons. Porter, who started 11 of 17 games as a rookie and posted 43 tackles, one interception and 10 passes defended, has accumulated 165 tackles, three interceptions and 31 passes defended over three seasons. The move comes after the Steelers opted not to match recent high-value deals signed by other top cornerbacks, choosing instead to acquire future draft assets.
