Cowboys acquire cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from Steelers for future draft picks
Dallas trades a 2027 sixth-round and a 2028 second-round pick to Pittsburgh for cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who is entering the final year of his contract.
Dallas has completed a trade with Pittsburgh that sends a 2027 sixth-round selection and a 2028 second-round selection to the Steelers in exchange for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The sixth-round pick belongs to Pittsburgh and was previously transferred to Dallas as part of an earlier deal involving wide receiver George Pickens.
The move gives the Cowboys a defensive player who can contribute immediately, while the Steelers acquire future draft capital after Porter expressed a desire for a contract extension that the team was not prepared to offer.
Porter is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which carries a salary of $3.924 million. Dallas may evaluate his performance this season before deciding on a long-term deal, or could allow him to enter free agency after the season, potentially earning a compensatory third-round pick in 2028.
Pittsburgh, having not seen Porter on the field this season due to a reported back injury, will add the two picks to its draft assets as it moves forward without the cornerback.
