Terence Crawford Becomes Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion with Victory Over Canelo Álvarez
Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Álvarez by unanimous decision to claim the undisputed super middleweight title, becoming the first male boxer to achieve undisputed status in three weight divisions.
Terence Crawford secured a unanimous decision victory over Canelo Álvarez on Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, claiming the undisputed super middleweight championship. The judges scored the bout 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 in favor of Crawford, who improved his record to 42-0 with 31 knockouts.
Crawford, 37, moved up two weight classes to face Álvarez, 35, who entered the ring with a record of 63-3-2. The fight drew a record crowd of 70,482 spectators. Crawford's agility and speed allowed him to control the tempo, effectively neutralizing Álvarez's offense. In the later rounds, Crawford increased his output, landing clean shots and frustrating Álvarez.
This victory makes Crawford the first male boxer to become an undisputed champion in three different weight classes. Reflecting on his achievement, Crawford stated, "This is definitely a signature win. Moving up two weight classes, being the B-side, fighting a guy that's been undefeated in the division, undisputed, taking all his titles, doing everything that I said I was going to do. Of course this means a lot."
Álvarez acknowledged Crawford's performance, saying, "We knew Crawford is a great fighter... I tried my best tonight, and I just couldn't figure out the style. You need to take the loss and accept everything."
The fight was broadcast live on Netflix, marking a significant event in boxing's history. The undercard featured notable bouts, including Callum Walsh's unanimous decision victory over Fernando Vargas Jr. and a split draw between Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez.
