Manhattan prosecutors indict three foreigners in $129 million AI deep-fake fraud
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan indicted three foreign nationals on November 7 for operating an AI-driven deep-fake scheme that impersonated corporate executives and attorneys to wire more than $129 million from U. S. companies.
The indictment charges Jacob Soall, Sharon Hazan and Guy Sheetrit with wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and money-laundering; they remain in custody awaiting extradition. The case builds on earlier charges announced on November 5, when prosecutors said the trio used artificial-intelligence voice technology to trick employees into wiring funds to accounts controlled by the defendants. The scheme targeted firms in multiple states, including California, Florida, Massachusetts and Missouri, and was described as one of the largest AI-based fraud operations uncovered to date.
