Jerry Jones says he tried to poach NFL coaches amid salary debate
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told a Dallas radio station that he has tried to recruit successful NFL coaches away from their current teams, prompting questions about possible league rule violations. He said the effort reflects his desire to improve the franchise's performance.
Earlier, Jones argued that coaching salaries bear no relationship to on-field success, a stance analysts said conflicted with data showing the Cowboys rank among the league’s lowest spenders on coaching staff. He later defended his willingness to pay top salaries to coaches despite those earlier remarks.
