Trump says Russia-Ukraine peace deal near after Melania-hosted ceasefire meeting
President Donald Trump said on November 6 that a settlement between Russia and Ukraine was close after his discussion with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, adding that he had not met the Ukrainian delegation. The comment followed a series of diplomatic meetings at the White House that began on October 29, when First Lady Melania Trump hosted Russian and Ukrainian officials. She had helped arrange a six-day humanitarian cease-fire in the Oleshky area of Ukraine’s Kherson region, which allowed residents to evacuate and was praised by both sides.
