NASA confirms Voyager 1 will reach one-light-day distance in November 2026
NASA, operating from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, announced that Voyager 1 will be one light-day away from Earth on 18 November 2026, extending round-trip communication to 48 hours. Earlier in October, JPL engineers replaced three high-consumption devices on the 49-year-old probe with lower-power units, a power-saving upgrade that restored communications after a brief 48-hour outage. The upgrade kept Voyager 1 on track to reach the one-light-day milestone in mid-November.
