Democrats Secure Senate Majority and Project House Control After Midterms
Democrats have secured a majority in the Senate and are projected to take the House, giving the party control of both chambers of Congress after the latest midterm results. Earlier forecasts had already signaled a strong Democratic surge. The Argument and Split Ticket gave Democrats a 77% chance to win the Senate and a 92% chance to capture the House. CNN identified 11 Senate contests most likely to flip, including races in North Carolina and Ohio.
Inside Elections moved nine Senate races toward Democrats, citing strong polling. Fox News’ power rankings shifted the South Carolina Senate race to a toss-up as President Donald Trump campaigned in the state. President Trump later claimed Republicans would have won a landslide had he been on the ballot.
