Investigation into Foreign Funding and Cash Transfer in Israeli Elections
Israeli authorities conducted an investigation into a cash transfer received by a Joint List lawmaker as part of a broader inquiry into potential foreign interference in the country's elections. The investigation found no evidence linking the funds to payments to voters or activities on Election Day. Earlier probes focused on alleged money transfers from Qatar and Turkey intended to boost Arab voter turnout.
These investigations followed several arrests and a police handover to the Lahav 433 unit. The Israel Elections Committee had tasked the Shin Bet security agency with examining claims of Qatari funding aimed at influencing the Knesset elections. Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to designate Qatar as an enemy state amid these concerns about foreign interference.
