Maharashtra Council Election Shifts Seats to Maha Vikas Aghadi
The Hindu reported on 30 October that the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi won three of the five seats contested in the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, while the ruling Mahayuti alliance captured the remaining two, shifting the balance of power in the state's upper house. Earlier, the Indian Express noted that the Mahayuti alliance had been ahead in three seats and the MVA in two, prompting internal debate within the BJP over candidate selection and alliance coordination.
The Hindu and India Today later reported that Congress candidate Abhijit Govindrao Wanjarri retained the Nagpur Division Graduates' constituency, defeating BJP rival Sudhakar Kohle by 3,271 votes. Subsequently, the Hindu said the BJP and Shiv Sena blamed each other for the loss of three council seats, citing poor coordination and disputed seat-sharing.
