Allahabad High Court clamps down on lawyer protests, urges case focus
On 30 October the Allahabad High Court urged junior advocates to prioritize case work over seeking social-media approval, warning that professional preparation must take precedence amid ongoing protests over a judge's conduct, Bar and Bench reported. Earlier, a judge ordered the newly elected High Court Bar Association to investigate lawyers who locked a courtroom gate, noting that barring advocates could amount to contempt.
The court also directed the registrar to review CCTV footage to identify advocates who disrupted proceedings with slogans and warned of possible contempt and disciplinary action, Live Law said. According to the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, Justice Ajay Bhanot had compelled a lawyer to apologise to a superintendent of police and threatened imprisonment, prompting calls for a boycott of his courtroom.
