CNN data analyst predicts Democratic advantage in Maine Senate race
CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten says President Donald Trump's low approval rating gives Democrat Troy Jackson an edge over incumbent Republican Susan Collins in the upcoming Maine Senate election.
CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten said he would "rather be Troy Jackson at this point than Susan Collins" in the Maine Senate race, citing President Donald Trump’s low approval rating as a factor that could benefit the Democratic candidate.
Enten noted that Senator Collins, who has served for three decades, has previously outperformed poll expectations.
"I kind of put Maine in kind of a separate camp if only because Susan Collins has defied polling before and she has been the senator now there for 30 years," Enten told The Bulwark.
A Marist University poll released last week showed the two candidates within two points of each other, with 49% of likely voters supporting Jackson and 47% backing Collins.
Enten has frequently highlighted President Trump’s declining approval ratings, previously describing them as "laughably bad" and noting that a Pew Research Center poll placed Trump 38 points below the neutral line ahead of the midterms, a gap he said was unprecedented for a sitting president before a midterm election.
