U.S. Confirms Visas for Flávio Bolsonaro and Family After Election Defeat
U. S. officials said they will grant visas to former Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his family, a decision confirmed on 28 October after his defeat to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
President Lula had earlier denounced Bolsonaro's planned departure as disgraceful, while a senior State Department official said the visas were being prepared. Brazil's Supreme Court later ordered the cancellation of Bolsonaro's passports after he failed to surrender them, following an earlier order by Justice Alexandre de Moraes that required him to hand over all passports and barred him from traveling abroad. Bolsonaro had previously said federal police had asked him to surrender his passports after visiting his incarcerated father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.
